How The World Has Been A Part Of Royal Weddings

[unable to retrieve full-text content]British royal weddings are technically not a state event; however, the royal wedding guest list stands firmly on tradition and is guided by protocol. Many of the guests were often heads of state and foreign dignitaries, and people that couple likely did not know personally.

Final shuttle launch date fixed

The last launch of a US space shuttle will take place on Friday 8 July.

The Atlantis ship has the honour of closing out the 30-year orbiter programme and will lift off at 1126 Florida time (1526 GMT).

Up to 750,000 people are expected to line the roads and beaches around the Kennedy Space Center, all eager to witness a piece of history.

The launch date was fixed by US space agency managers on Tuesday following a review of mission preparations.

They passed as fit to fly a new fuel valve on one of the vehicle's main engines. The old valve was suspected to have a leak and was changed.

And inspections ordered on support beams on the ship's big orange external fuel tank found no issues of concern. Cracks in these structures were the cause of a major delay on a previous shuttle mission.

Four astronauts will ride Atlantis to orbit - Commander Chris Ferguson, Pilot Doug Hurley, and Mission Specialists Sandy Magnus and Rex Walheim.

Their 12-day sortie will take them to the International Space Station (ISS), where they will deliver more than 3.5 tonnes (8,000lb) of supplies - including a year's worth of food. It will give the US space agency some room to play with as it looks to introduce a commercial cargo re-supply service over the next 12 months.

"This flight is incredibly important to space station; the cargo that is coming up is really mandatory," said Nasa's Associate Administrator for Space Operations, Bill Gerstenmaier.

A shuttle would normally fly with six or seven crew members onboard, but the number has been reduced for this final flight because there is no orbiter left on standby to go and rescue them should they to get into trouble.

In the event of Atlantis sustaining serious damage on lift-off, similar to the ill-fated Columbia ship in 2003, the astronauts would take refuge on the ISS until they could all return to Earth in Russian Soyuz capsules over a 10-month period.

AtlantisOn its return from space, Atlantis will be put on public display at the Kennedy Space Center visitor complex

The 8 July ascent will be the 135th shuttle launch and the 33rd of Atlantis.

In total, 355 individuals will have flown 852 times on those 135 missions since the very first shuttle flight on 12 April, 1981.

The five orbiters used over the course of the programme have flown 864,401,200km (537,114,016 miles) - a distance roughly similar to travelling from the Earth to the Sun and back three times.

Atlantis will add a further 6.5 million km (four million miles) to that total.

Reflecting on the significance of a final shuttle mission, Commander Ferguson said recently: "I don't think that the full magnitude of the moment will really hit us until the wheels have stopped on the runway.

"I'm not sure words will really be able to capture for the crew and for the entire shuttle workforce just how much the shuttle programme has meant to us for the last 30 years."

It has been an emotional few months for everyone connected with the programme - not least because many shuttle workers have lost their jobs in the wind-down. But Shuttle Launch Director Mike Leinbach said everyone would stay focused on getting the 8 July launch done properly.

"Everyone that touches the vehicle is a true professional at the Kennedy Space Center, and throughout the programme," he told reporters.

"With that professionalism and their dedication to the programme over many, many years comes a commitment to do the job right. When the folks are doing their work on this amazing machine, I don't worry about it - I know they're going to do their job as perfectly as they have in the past."

Discovery was the first ship to complete its career in March, followed by Endeavour which landed one last time on 1 June.

The vehicles are all being retired to museums. Atlantis will end its days at the Kennedy Space Center visitor complex.

steroids,health,fitness,sports,medicine,where to buy steroids ...

Dianabol is Methandrostenolone and is also known as dbol. Dbol was created by Ciba in the fifties by doctor Ziegler. Dianabol is the anabolic steroid that gave Russian weightlifters their edge during that time. Two decades later Dianabol use exploded among bodybuilders all over the world. Russian dbol was so well known that it was practically a brand name. Fast forward to late 2K and Dianabol is as popular as ever; Mass produced in china and thailand Dianabol comes in hexagon pink pills with a picture of a dragon on them. Fake pills are also on the market, but a search of images online will show you the subtle differences between the real ones and the counterfits. Many websites say they sell real steroids but the truth is that the majority of these sites are scams and the steroids they provide contain no active ingredients. This has led to the creation of steroid source checking forums online where bodybuilders and power lifters share which sites are legit and which ones are bunk. If you do decide to buy steroids online do your research.

Here are some tips to keep in mine while looking to buy steroids online:
1) Request a free sample
2) Never purchase from a site that does not have a shopping cart that accepts credit cards. Often fake sites will ask you to send money via Western Union. If they do that is a sure sign that you will never receive your product.
3) Find someone you trust and get them to point you in right direction. A personal referral is the best way to find a legit steroid source. Don't have any friends? Visit htttp://www.serveandshare.com/steroids to read real reviews from your peers.

How Does Methandrostenolone work?

In a nutshell "It works really well" Seriously the results you will receive from doing Dianabol are amazing. It is not uncommon to put on 3 pounds of muscle a week. Take note however that alot of the muscle gains are largely water. When you come off of Dianabol you can expect to loose some water retention that will reduce your size and drop the weigh gained by about one third. Also expect to eat alot. Increase you protein intake because Dianabol increases protein synthesis.

Side Efffects:

1) The law. Steroids are a controlled substance in the United States and many other countries.

2) Dianabol is hard on the liver. Drink lots of water. Take mile thistle. Never use it for more than a eight week cycle.

All About Medical Clinics

One of the most important advancements in the world that have taken place in the past 100 years is the advancement of medical science and the treatments that are now available to treat a wide variety of diseases that in past times almost certainly meant death or permanent disability. Medical care has now reached one of its best states in the history of human civilization with new treatments being available every single day and further more advanced versions of existing cures coming out almost every other day, with each new method making sure that there are even fewer side effects and even quicker relief from symptoms.

Medical clinics are the forefront of this modern medical revolution. These are the places where the majority of cases are seen and dealt with on a daily basis so that people can have the best possible health and stay in the best possible shape. Medical clinics are like a smaller version of fully fledged hospitals and are hence the initial choice for people who are sick as they are much more numerous and easier to access than hospitals. Clinics can also be for emergency purposes wherein they provide patients with crucial first aid that is necessary to keep them alive till they get to a hospital.

There are several different types of clinics and these days, the equipment and the capacities of a clinic are also increasing as the specialized clinic becomes something a lot more commonplace. These are clinics that have the requisite equipment and capabilities that are necessary to deal with specific types of medical emergencies and problems like cardiac, gastric etc. These clinics are also the first choice for any case where a specialized type of treatment is preferred.

The role that clinics have played in the development and deployment of proper and effective medical care to people can never be underestimated as these are the first lines of defense against any health problem or epidemic.

Most Japanese oppose nuclear reactor restarts: poll (Reuters)

TOKYO (Reuters) ? Nearly 70 percent of Japanese oppose the restart of nuclear reactors halted for maintenance work, a poll showed on Monday, even though keeping them shut could mean power blackouts this summer and higher electricity bills.

Public fears about nuclear power have grown due to the crisis at Tokyo Electric Power Co's Fukushima Daiichi plant, where workers are struggling to control radiation leaks from meltdowns after reactor cooling systems were knocked out by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.

The loss of generating capacity due to the closure of Fukushima and other plants, exacerbated by the refusal of local governments to sanction the restart of other reactors shut for routine maintenance, has raised the prospect of blackouts when power demand peaks in the summer.

Thirty-five of Japan's 54 commercial reactors are currently shut, including the six at Fukushima, 240 km (150 miles) north of Tokyo.

Before the crisis, nuclear power provided about 30 percent of Japan's electricity, a figure that fell last month to about 20 percent.

The poll by the Nikkei business daily also showed that 47 percent want to cut the number of nuclear plants, up 5 percentage points from the previous poll in May.

Media reported on Monday that Chugoku Electric Power in western Japan is being refused permission by the governor of Yamaguchi prefecture to build a nuclear plant on landfill in a cove at Kaminoseki on the Seto Inland Sea.

Local residents oppose the plant, which the utility aimed to have in commercial operation by March 2018.

Hereditary colon cancer syndrome marked by abnormally dense blood vessel growth in mouth

Friday, June 24, 2011

A team led by Johns Hopkins researchers has found that a hereditary colon cancer syndrome, familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), is associated with abnormally dense blood vessel growth in the skin lining the mouth.

The finding, reported in the June issue of Familial Cancer, could lead to a quick screening test for FAP, which is normally diagnosed with expensive DNA tests and colonoscopies, and sometimes goes unnoticed until cancer develops.

"This higher blood vessel density in the mouth may reflect an abnormal state of cells lining the digestive tract ? including the oral cavity ? that predisposes people to colorectal cancer and precancerous polyps," says Francis M. Giardiello, M.D., Johns G. Rangos Sr. Professor of Medicine at Johns Hopkins and director of Hopkins' Hereditary Colorectal Cancer Program.

People who have even one copy of the mutant gene that causes FAP develop hundreds of precancerous colorectal polyps, also known as adenomas, in their teens. Most have their colons removed after diagnosis to avoid what would otherwise be a near-100 percent risk of colon cancer by middle age.

In 2003, Italian researchers reported that a similar genetic condition, hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC), was linked to a greater complexity of blood vessels in the oral mucosa ? the skin that lines the mouth. Daniel L. Edelstein, a senior research program coordinator at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, says he read the Italian report and brought it to Giardiello's attention.

Edelstein also contacted Jessica C. Ramella-Roman, an expert on bio-optics systems at The Catholic University of America. "She developed a cameralike device that enabled a direct and relatively automated measurement of this vascular density in the lining of the mouth," he says.

Using Ramella-Roman's device and associated image-analysis software, the researchers scanned a two-centimeter-square patch of oral mucosa inside the lower lip of 33 patients with FAP. All 33 were enrolled in the Johns Hopkins Hereditary Colorectal Cancer Registry. The team also scanned a similar tissue sample of 50 control subjects who were matched for age and other variables but had no personal or family history of colorectal cancer or adenoma(s). Each subject was screened to determine the density of visible blood vessels in their lower lip ? a measure they called the "oral mucosal vascular density (OMVD)."

"The OMVD measures were significantly higher in FAP patients than in healthy controls," says Giardiello. "About 90 percent of FAP patients in this sample had OMVD values above a certain threshold, and about 90 percent of controls were below that threshold, so in principle, we could use that threshold for screening purposes." Differences in the OMVD results were unrelated to age or gender, according to the researchers.

To further investigate the technique's screening potential, the researchers gave the OMVD test to five of Giardiello's patients who had multiple polyps but no detectable mutation for FAP or HNPCC on genetic tests. "They might have other, unknown gene mutations predisposing them to polyp formation, or they might have FAP or HNPCC mutations that somehow weren't picked up in the tests," said Giardiello.

All five of these patients had OMVD scores above the high-risk threshold. "The results suggest that this high-OMVD condition may be an alternative marker for colon cancer risk, even when we can't find a gene mutation," Giardiello says.

Tumors typically promote the spread of new blood vessels in their vicinity to maintain their high growth rates. FAP mutations also boost the production of factors that increase new-vessel growth in the colon and other tissues. That could explain why people with FAP have higher vascular densities in their mouths, says Giardiello.

"While there seems to be a reason why FAP patients have this denser vessel growth, I don't yet have a plausible explanation for how HNPCC gene mutations could cause this overgrowth," says Giardiello. "It's something that we'd like to investigate further."

Obama???s Labor Secretary addresses discriminatory vandalism three days later (Daily Caller)

After The Daily Caller first reported Obama administration bureaucrats at the Labor Department vandalized ?gay rights? posters in their building?s elevators on Monday, the administration?s political appointees there remained silent.

Now, though, three full days later, Labor Secretary Hilda Solis sent an 800-plus word email to staffers demanding they respect the posters and what they represent. TheDC obtained a copy of the email.

In addition to the 72-hour wait for her to address the vandalism, it took an open call from a gay advocacy group that gave an award to Solis for her work with the gay community.

?Let me be absolutely clear: The U.S. Department of Labor is a welcoming, diverse and inclusive workplace,? Solis wrote to the bureaucrats at the DOL.??We value everyone.?We embrace people?s individuality and celebrate their diversity, talents and contributions.?

Solis doubled down on her civility-via-posters campaign, too. She said those gay rights posters will now remain up in the elevators for the rest of June.

?The LGBT Pride poster will remain up in the FPB elevators for the rest of the month,? she wrote.??Employees in the FPB are encouraged to report defaced, damaged or missing posters to extension 3-5001 so they can be immediately replaced.?

Solis also said she?ll provide posters for any Labor Department employees who want one, too, so they can hang one anywhere they want in the building.

?The poster will be available to any employee at any location who wants to hang it on their office door, cubicle or break/common area,? she wrote. (Feds look to regulate food similar to tobacco)

Solis added that she doesn?t think the ?actions of a few define who we are or what we believe.?

In her lengthy email to staffers, Solis went on to detail how the entire Obama administration takes the ?gay rights? issue ?seriously.?

?That?s why we repealed ?Don?t Ask. Don?t Tell? so that gay, lesbian and bisexual Americans can serve openly in the armed forces; required hospitals receiving Medicare/Medicaid funds to allow visitation rights and medical decision-making rights to LGBT patients; and made sure that the Census counted everyone?including LGBT couples,? Solis wrote.??And I take great satisfaction that our own Wage and Hour Division clarified that the Family and Medical Leave Act covers LGBT parents.?

Solis added, too, that ?later this month,? she?s going to hold a meeting between her agency heads and ?transgender advocacy groups? to ?explore ways in which DOL can break down barriers for transgender workers.?

The Obama administration?s labor chief referenced her letter in 2009, too, in which she had to address the exact same thing happening then. This is now the second known, documented time where Obama administration bureaucrats have vandalized gay rights promotional materials at the Labor Department.

?I do not consider vandalizing government property a constructive, effective or professional way to communicate one?s views,? Solis wrote.??As I stated in a similar message two years ago, respect for one another is ?non-negotiable? at the U.S. Department of Labor.?

Below is a copy of the full email, obtained by The Daily Caller, that Labor Secretary Hilda Solis sent to Labor employees. Solis sent this email on Thursday, June 23, 2011. Regarding her staff?s vandalism of gay rights posters:

Dear Colleagues:

This week, our elevator poster features Bayard Rustin. Too many people don?t know who he was and what he did. That?s a shame.

Rustin was a counselor to A. Philip Randolph and Rev. Martin Luther King. He was also the chief organizer of the 1963 March on Washington where Dr. King delivered his famous ?I Have a Dream? speech?an event I believe changed our country in so many positive ways.

Rustin was also gay, and at the time, other people?s homophobia, fear and intolerance compromised his effectiveness and his potential. He had to stay ?behind the scenes? and was rarely credited publicly for his amazing skill and accomplishments. As a result, and until fairly recently, he was ?written out? of the civil rights movement?s history.

There?s a lesson here, and I think it?s relevant to each and every one of us. As we do our work to create jobs, spur economic growth, keep workplaces safe and free of discrimination, and ensure that the American people are educated and trained to be the most competitive in the world . . . every U.S. Department of Labor employee?s talent must be brought to these important tasks.

We don?t have a person to lose?across our nation and here at the department.

The administration takes this seriously. That?s why we repealed ?Don?t Ask. Don?t Tell? so that gay, lesbian and bisexual Americans can serve openly in the armed forces; required hospitals receiving Medicare/Medicaid funds to allow visitation rights and medical decision-making rights to LGBT patients; and made sure that the Census counted everyone?including LGBT couples. And I take great satisfaction that our own Wage and Hour Division clarified that the Family and Medical Leave Act covers LGBT parents. Later this month, I?m convening a meeting between agency heads and transgender advocacy groups to explore ways in which DOL can break down barriers for transgender workers.

Within the Labor Department, we?re doing things?big and small?to make sure that our LGBT employees can be their most effective and reach their full potential. It starts by respecting them. And it?s reinforced by educating others.

In April, we expanded the protections outlined in our internal equal opportunity policies to highlight the prohibition of discrimination on the basis of gender identity. Additionally, the policies reiterated the department?s prohibition of discrimination and discriminatory harassment on the basis of sexual orientation. On June 1st?at my direction?we hung the first-ever LGBT Pride banner above the entrance to the Frances Perkins building. Earlier today, we screened a documentary about Bayard Rustin here in the FPB. We?ve provided copies of the video to our regional offices and have encouraged them to sponsor similar events. I?ve instructed the Wirtz Library to screen the film for any employees who would like to watch it, individually or as a group. My office is happy to partner with any agency or group that would like to screen the film.

And we also put up our LGBT Pride elevator poster. For the past two years we have used the posters to celebrate our achievements, recognize our colleagues and articulate our mission.

I?ve spent my life in politics and public service, so I encourage debate and dialogue. I have said many times that I want to hear from our employees if they have legitimate issues or concerns. But I will not tolerate disrespect to others. And I do not consider vandalizing government property a constructive, effective or professional way to communicate one?s views. As I stated in a similar message two years ago, respect for one another is ?non-negotiable? at the U.S. Department of Labor.

Let me be absolutely clear: The U.S. Department of Labor is a welcoming, diverse and inclusive workplace. We value everyone. We embrace people?s individuality and celebrate their diversity, talents and contributions. I know the vast majority of employees throughout the department share this view and live these values every single day. I do not believe the actions of a few define who we are or what we believe.

So I hope you will join me in making this message even more obvious to all of our colleagues and to everyone who comes to any of our offices. The LGBT Pride poster will remain up in the FPB elevators for the rest of the month. Employees in the FPB are encouraged to report defaced, damaged or missing posters to extension 3-5001 so they can be immediately replaced. The LGBT Pride ?billboard? will remain up on LaborNet for the rest of the month. The poster will be available to any employee at any location who wants to hang it on their office door, cubicle or break/common area. Contact Beverly Eaves at 202/693-4654, and it will be provided to you.

Bayard Rustin?who led a movement of non-violence with Dr. King?once said: ?When an individual is protesting society?s refusal to acknowledge his dignity as a human being, his very act of protest confers dignity on him.? Let?s not forget this legacy. Let?s make him proud.

Sincerely,

Hilda L. Solis

U.S. Secretary of Labor

Same-sex marriage, cancer, and fig leaves - WORLDmag.com

Marvin0625Joy, joy, joy! Just before midnight last night the New York Senate passed and Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a bill legalizing same-sex marriage. At 5:30 this morning the Associated Press reported, ?Champagne corks popped, rainbow flags flapped and crowds embraced and danced in the streets of Manhattan?s Greenwich Village.?

The article quoted nine people, all ecstatic about the new gay right. Queens teacher Eugene Lovendusky was typical: ?I am spellbound. I?m so exhausted and so proud that the New York State Senate finally stood on the right side of history.? Reporter Karen Zraick even quoted one official saying the new law is ?good news? for city tourism.

But what about the AP?s ?Statement of Ethical Principles?? The first sentence under the heading ?Integrity? states, ?The newspaper should strive for impartial treatment of issues and dispassionate handling of controversial subjects.? Impartiality and dispassionate handling were nowhere in evidence yesterday and today, but that?s not surprising on this or other controversial issues where all reasonable people know what the right side of history is?right?

This coverage showed once again that worldviews typically direct the reporting of controversial issues. Most liberals see same-sex marriage as a human right and opposition to such as ethical cancer. We cheer medical advances that fight particular kinds of cancer, and no one sees the need to balance out anti-cancer viewpoints with pro-cancer ones.

Was AP coverage improved by its follow-up report at 9:03 a.m., which stuck on?like a fig leaf?brief sentences by opponents of same-sex marriage? (Maybe someone remembered AP?s ethics code.) Not really, because the story did not even mention the past few days of State Senate negotiations concerning what will become the new battle in New York: What happens to the religious freedom of those who want to uphold biblical standards concerning marriage?

You can skip to the end and leave a response. Pinging is currently not allowed.

Benefits of excess weight reduction in arthritis with Provailen ...

Obesity can be a nationwide epidemic and we hear in regards to the danger from it each day on the news. New investigation demonstrates that the obese (overweight) men and women are up to 4 instances as prone to produce knee osteoarthritis as they are to develop hypertension or type-2 diabetes. The hazard to well being and quality of daily life is insidious: at each and every stage, extra physique excess weight equally grows the amount of discomfort and disability and undermines the effectiveness of remedy. Also, whereas high blood pressure and diabetes may be significantly improved on dropping weight and so are relatively easy to manage with therapy, osteoarthritis is irreversible.

Value of achieving & maintaining normal fat in arthritis
Maintaining a recommended excess weight or dropping weight if they may be obese can lessen pain by reducing stress around the affected joints. Bodyweight loss specifically helps ease stress on weight-bearing joints such as the hips, knees, back and feet.

Increased body fat is really a serious factor in the development of osteoarthritis (OA), particularly in the knees, which carry the brunt of fat day in and day out. In fact, for every pound a person gains, add 3 pounds of pressure about the knees and six occasions the pressure on the hips. Since bodyweight gain gradually raises the stress on joints, the excess weight gain the decade before a person has OA symptoms, particularly in middle age, plays a big role in determining if they will have OA. If the patient is overweight, work with them to devise a weight-loss plan that includes eating fewer calories and increasing physical exercise. Make sure they may be getting enough nutrients to keep their physique healthy and which the activities they choose don?t harm their joints.

Study has shown that shedding extra fat can help people who already have osteoarthritis. Moreover, chubby or obese people who do not have osteoarthritis may reduce their risk of developing the disease by losing excess weight. Herbal supplements used in the treatment method of arthritis such as Provailen also help with fat reduction and contributes to an improved sense of well-being.

In short, weight control is important to people who have arthritis because extra bodyweight puts extra pressure on some joints and can aggravate many types of arthritis. Attaining a healthy fat reduces the risk of developing the disease in the first place, relieves existing symptoms and helps to prevent further deterioration. Weight loss, using a two-in-one (Anti-arthritis + anti-obesity) herbal supplement such as Provailen and exercise combined have even been shown to achieve the same amount of symptom relief as joint replacement surgery.

The Ways in Which Writing a Piece of Short Fiction May be ...

???

By : Desmond Blansford ?? 4 or more times read
Submitted 2011-06-01 18:09:25 The short story was first recognized as a specific type of writing in 1842, once Edgar Allen Poe's analysis of Nathaniel Hawthorne brought attention towards the brand-new style of fiction. Short story composition had, nevertheless, already been practiced for quite a few years previous to that: quite possibly the stories of Homer and also the tales in the very first books of the Bible might be regarded as as the first examples; undoubtedly the short story is directly associated in its initial history with mythological narratives, proverbial tales, and unwritten traditions, and it can be traced to the fables of the fourteenth century. Later writers aided in its emergence.

Nevertheless the short story as most of us recognize it right now is a product of the nineteenth century; and it necessarily credits its position in literary circles, if not its very existence, to North american writers. They first recognized its possibilities and practiced it in earnest; and the technique and brilliance which they placed into their narratives almost guaranteed the short story a perpetual place in literature. They pursued differing approaches in content and approach, yet they identified the same standards and constraints; and the rules that they started still hold true in these modern times.

The popular short story is essentially an american invention; and our practitioners of its craft have put in place precedents for literary workers in Europe. In truth numerous respected authors within the European countries have gained celebrity by creating short works of fiction, managing to cause almost all people today to think that short stories came from in the old world. And even informed readers are surprised to find out that short stories were at first an american invention.

At this time short stories are so widely common that we seem to be in a brand new literary era - the age of the short story - and there is no apparent cause to expect an early reduction in the call for such literature.

For the young writer the short story affords the best opportunity to prove his mettle. Additionally, it offers the added value of serving as an excellent training ground for the writer of novels. The short story and the full-length book have significant differences; yet in material, treatment and intention they are very similar, and comparable basic instruction is beneficial for both. The majority of short story writers do not emerge as great novelists, nor have most novelists started as short story writers; however it is a fact that the bulk of current day authors of novels began their careers as short story authors.
