Unfortunately, many people experience eye problems such as near and farsightedness, astigmatism, and poor night vision. These vision problems lower one?s quality of life and can be very costly to correct, and nearly impossible to reverse. Poor vision is usually magnified by undue strain to the eyes. Technique 1: Use an Eye Mask
Eye masks can make a great contribution to eye relaxation, especially when you?re asleep. Darkness can be therapeutic for the eyes because the eyes don?t need to track, focus, or register light. Light can still reach the eyes, even if they?re fully closed. An eye mask will prevent any light from entering while you sleep, and give your eyes some much deserved rest.
Technique 2: Palming
This is a popular technique because it works. First, rub your eyes until you feel a little warmth. Then, cover both your eyes with your hands and make sure no light is able to penetrate through. Imagine and focus on pure blackness, if you still see bits of color while palming. This exercise relaxes the eyes, and it?s a great alternative to eye masks during waking hours.
Technique 3: Focusing on Distant Objects
If you?re like me, then you?re probably in front of a computer screen?a lot. The constant focus of objects in close proximity is very harmful to the eyes and can cause damage if a balance isn?t achieved. As a person suffering from myopia (nearsightedness), I learned this the hard way; however, you don?t have to. To do this exercise, take time throughout the day, especially when reading or in front of the computer, to focus on something at least 10 feet away for at least 10 seconds. Also, be sure to breathe deeply while doing this. Don?t just look at the object, you need to focus on it. Tip: Your eyes aren?t completely focused on something until they can see what you?re focusing on clearly.
An alternative to this exercise would be to start closer, so look at an object that is approximately 3 meters away until your are completely focused on it. Then you can focus on something that is farther, increasing the distance until you reach a point where you can no longer focus on the object as it is too far. As you practice this exercise, you will notice that you are able to focus on objects that are further and further every time.
