Co-Ed Flag Football on the Beach begins Sept. 21 with a combined two-night league on Wednesdays and Thursdays highlighted by a grand finale year-end tournament on Saturday, Oct. 22. Played at 19th Street and The Strand in Hermosa Beach, games are played with two 20 minute halves, alternating guy and girl quarterbacks. Registration offered as a team only and may be made at the Community Center at 710 Pier Ave. in Hermosa Beach or online at www.HermosaBCH.Org/Adult Leagues prior to the first day of the league. Volleyball: California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA) hosts the California Cup State Championships at two venues Saturday and Sunday. At the Manhattan Beach Pier Men?s A, AA, Unrated and Women?s A and AA tournaments will be held Saturday followed by Men?s B, Co-ed A, Open and Unrated competitions on Sunday. The California Cup Youth Championships will be held Sunday at the Manhattan Beach Pier for boys and girls 12U, 14U, 16U and 18U divisions. Action begins at 9 a.m. each day. Beach and indoor volleyball club Team WAVE (We Are Volleyball Elite) has scheduled tryouts for its South Bay program. Boys in U14 and U16 divisions are invited to tryout Sept. 9-10. The 9th Annual Jayo Celebrity Pro Am 12 team, 6-on-6 tournament will be held Saturday, Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Dockweiler Beach. Registration is available for individuals ($50) or full teams ($750 up to 12 members). Each team will have a pro team captain and a celebrity host. Registration closes Sept. 23 at noon. Co-ed Volleyball on the Beach Leagues begins Tuesday, Sept. 13th on the north side of the Hermosa Beach Pier. Matches in the six-week season will be played from 6-8 p.m. in a best 2-out-of-3 format with playoffs at the end of the season. Registration must be made at the Community Center at 710 Pier Ave. in Hermosa Beach prior to league start date. Fees are $240 per team plus $5 per non-HB resident. Bodybuilding: The United Natural Bodybuilding Association (UNBA) Samson & Delilah USA Muscle Classic will be held Saturday, Sept. 24 at 4 p.m. at the Hermosa Beach Playhouse, 710 Pier Avenue. Open to all natural men and women, competitions include national qualifiers for the Fitness Southern California Regional Pageant, Figure America Southern Cal, Ms. Bikini Southern California and Model Southern California. Basketball: The HAX / ARC Youth Basketball League is holding registration for Recreation and Travel Team divisions. Open to boys and girls grades 1-8, the league begins Sept. 17-19. Fitness: AdventurePlex, 1701 Marine Ave., Manhattan Beach is offering its Open Rock Wall and Ropes Course on Saturdays from 12-3 p.m. (Rock Wall is also open Sundays from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.). Whether a single child, the whole family, or just a group of friends (Ages 5 and up for rock wall, 8 and up for ropes course), the course provides challenges of solving problems and overcoming obstacles. Groups of seven will start every hour and will take approximately 45 minutes to complete the courses. Advance registration is recommended. Cost is $8-$20 depending on activities.
