Perry: Turn to God for answers to nation's woes (AP)

HOUSTON ? Texas Gov. Rick Perry is asking Christians to turn to God for answers to the nation's troubles as he holds court over a national prayer event attended by roughly 30,000 people.

The Republican who is considering running for president delivered a speech that included prayer and Bible verses. He said that a return to Christian ideals can help solve the nation's problems.

Or as Perry put it -- quote -- "Our heart breaks for America. We see discord at home. We see fear in the marketplace. We see anger in the halls of government."

Perry prayed for President Barack Obama and other leaders as well as U.S. troops killed in Afghanistan.

Roughly 30,000 attended the Reliant Arena event, and thousands more watched online and remotely from 1,000 churches.
