VALUEABLE items of all size were taken from the back of cupboards for the Casino and District Family History Group Antique Appraisal and History Fair.

92-year-old Linda Irwin of Casino took her 1940?s pram to the Casino and District Family History Group Antique Appraisal and History Fair for evaluation.

VALUEABLE items of all size, age and purpose were taken from the hiding spots in the back of cupboards and dusted off over the weekend for the Casino and District Family History Group Antique Appraisal and History Fair.

Hundreds of people came through the doors of the Casino Community Centre on Saturday with antiques in hand, hoping to discover the historic and monetary value behind their treasured items.

Bert Elliot from Summerland Antiques conducted the appraisals for $2 per item.

Ninety-two-year-old Linda Irwin brought a pram from the 1940s to the antiques fair, which had been in her possession for about 40 years.

Mr Elliot valued Mrs Irwin?s antique pram at $250.

Mrs Irwin said she had a house full of antiques and that it was about time she got rid of some, including donating a few of her possessions to various museums.

Lyn Mudford from Casino had a basket full of antiques, including her late mother?s crystal necklace, which she wore on her wedding day, a pricey vase and an old ceremonial police strap.

?(The strap) was my husband?s grandfather?s,? she said.

?He was a police sergeant in the Kyogle area. It was presented to him at a ceremonial thing, as he was a pretty highly regarded police officer.

?The appraiser told me it would fetch about $80 in England.?

Mrs Mudford was quite content with her appraisal, even if some of her items didn?t fetch the value she hoped for.

Event organiser and Casino and District Family History Group minutes secretary said the response to the event was overwhelming.

?It?s interesting for people to know the history of something and the value applied to it.

"But most people would not even think about selling it because it means something to them ,? she said.
