The Construction Industry Council (CIC) supported by the Construction Sector Network (CSN) is pleased to announce a conference and training event specifically for construction businesses, owners, directors and professionals. The conference will hear from the Government?s Chief Construction Advisor ? Paul Morrell OBE and other construction sector specialists from the legal and professional fields. The aim is to provide the sector with information and guidance, thereby making it better able to come out of the downturn stronger and more confident about the future of the industry in our region.

Paul Morrell OBE, Government?s Chief Construction Advisor, said: ?The construction industry has been through recessions before, and the formula for survival is pretty well understood: get costs under control, take care of the cash, nurture the clients who are still investing and?the people who make your business what it is and get the business and its products or services fit for recovery. Recoveries are like fashions, however: they do come back, but never quite the same. And this time around, on top of the usual challenges of emerging from a recession there are new pressures ? pressure to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions, technological change, a shortage of existing skills and a need for new ones, and increased competition both for the industry and its clients. ?So, after more than a decade of talking about structural reform, are the forces of change now irresistible? Or will things settle down again to something more recognisably like the past??

Stefanie Stead, Vice-Chair of CIC and an Architect with Chetwoods Architects, said: ?The training event is a great opportunity to hear from a range of highly respected and influential speakers who are sector experts in building stronger business. Delegates will take away a toolkit that will help regional construction business emerge stronger from the recession.
