Book Reviews: Get published on the Writing Bar!

We?d love to publish your book reviews. If you?re interested in sending up to 500 words on a book you?ve recently read and recommend, here are some guidelines. We welcome reviews from most genres.

1. Please ensure you include information about the story
By this we mean please go beyond saying ?it?s a tale of love, loss and betrayal?. That?s not enough. Our readers want to know more. It?s fine to say ?it?s a tale of love, loss and betrayal?, but please also include information about the story: ?It?s about two brothers who live on a farm in Tasmania. Their relationship reaches breaking point when one falls in love with his brother?s wife ??

2. Tell us why you decided to read this book
What made you pick up the book in the first place? Do you have a personal interest in this story? Were you attracted by the cover? If so, what attracted you about it? Have you read the author?s previous books? If so, how does this compare?

3. What was the most powerful or memorable aspect of this book? How did it impact you?
This will be unique to you. Was it the story? Did you fall in love with the characters? Did you relate to the author?s confessions about alcoholism? Are your teenagers going through similar angst as the characters in the book? Was it the prose that made the book compelling? If so, describe the prose so the reader can get an idea of what you mean.

4. Tell us a bit about the author
This only needs to be a couple of sentences but should provide the reader with a little background information about the author. Example: ?John Smith was formerly a school teacher and now writes airport thrillers. This is his third book.?

5. No spoilers please
We never want to wreck the reading experience of our readers. So please avoid including any major plot points, twists or surprises.

6. Shortcomings
If you feel the book had shortcomings, please feel free to balance your review with these. However, if you simply hated the book, then we?re not that keen to run reviews that are totally negative. This is because we want to focus our reviews on books that people recommend.

7. Other comments
Anything else you?d like to add or you feel is relevant for readers.
