The area of El Pened?s is the one with the highest percentage of homes with broadband Internet connections (72.9%) in 2011, according to the Territorial Survey of Information and Communication Technologies in Households. Of particular note are the counties of Ribera d'Ebre and El Garraf, where 75.2% and 74.3%, respectively, of homes possess such a connection.

Most central counties and those of Girona have broadband in around 67% of their homes. Far from the Catalan average are the counties of the Lleida Pyrenees and South Tarragona, with percentages in many cases below 65%.

The Territorial Survey of Information and Communication Technologies in Households (TICLT) provides estimates of the main indicators of household equipment and the use of such technologies by the Catalan population. The results are presented by areas of the territorial plan and by counties.

The county estimates are made through the application of compound estimators in the framework of the small area estimation methodology. The final results are homogenised with those obtained on Equipment and Use of Information and Communication Technologies in Households (TICL) by the INE in Catalonia, which enables the information to be comparable between autonomous communities.

These statistics form part of the collaboration agreement between the Department of Enterprise and Labour and Idescat, which regulates joint actions in the execution of some statistical activities regarding information and communication technologies in Catalonia.

These results are published in the Bank of Statistics on Municipalities and Counties and the Statistical Yearbook of Catalonia, and complement the annual information for Catalonia as a whole that was already available in the Indicators of economic structure section.
