Why are PC Games just so Addictive? - Cheap Ass Gamer

So I?ve been playing a ton of Diablo 3 lately, and before that, it was League of Legends. I am often appalled at myself at how easy I can lose 8-12 hours playing a PC game, to the point where I almost think I would be better off without it. Sometimes I don?t even know why I keep playing. That is perhaps the worse part.

Somehow, some way, playing games on my PC gets me hooked. I?m much more of a console gamer, but the most I can play any console game is usually 4 hours or so before wanting to take a break. That?s even for games I love. Most times I play for an hour or two and feel happy and ready for a break. PC games though, what a different story.

Doesn?t matter the game or the genre, but find me a new PC game to play, and before you know it, I?m playing it for 8 hours straight if I can (considering work/life responsibilities). My first ever PC game I got, Roller Coaster Tycoon, when I was 14 years old... I must have played that thing day in and day out for a good year. I don?t even really like Sim games! Then it was Counterstrike, then Team Fortress, and Team Fortress 2. There was Starcraft, Diablo 2, and Everquest. Diablo 2 might have been one of the worst for me. My entire life for about a good year and a half from 15.5 to 17 years old was Diablo 2 eight plus hours a day. I only stopped because I was hacked too... thank god! :P

Now more recently, two years ago I was introduced to League of Legends. I still play it to this day, though have uninstalled and reinstalled it several times due to playing it too much some time. Diablo 3 is my current game of choice, and I find myself just playing it for the hell of it. Something deep down just keeps urging me to play and play and play, even when there is no tangible reward in sight.

So getting all that discussion out of the way, just why are PC games so addicting?! I thought first that it had to be the genre, but that can?t be it. Diablo is a fun action RPG with loot collection. Borderlands is very similar, and I love the death out of that game (on console), but eventually I am able to move on from it. I play it for a bit, feel good, and just go on with my day. I don?t think I could ever play Borderlands 8+ hours a day. I would get bored! (maybe if it was the PC version though it would be a different story!)

So then I wonder, is it the accessibility? With consoles, I have to go get my controller, turn the big TV on, sit down on the couch, and play. Not very complex I know, but compared with a computer where I can simply click an icon and begin playing in seconds, it?s a notable difference. Computer games are super easy to get into, I can be at my desk working on something or just browsing the web, and just a click away is a game to play. It?s quick and easy. But I?m still not convinced that is what hooks me.

I thought for awhile maybe it was the game design. I tend to fell like I keep playing mostly because I?m aiming for that ?next big thing?. In League of Legends, it?s that next exciting game. In Diablo 3, it?s that next awesome item drop. So on and so forth. Maybe part of the equation is that gameplay in PC games is actually very mediocre with amazing bits scattered around, that you start playing just to get another glimpse of those amazing bits. But I?m not sure on this point either. There?s tons of genres of PC games that I have got hooked on, with many similar counterparts on the console that I have played and loved, but never got hooked on.

So what is it? I even find it easy to get hooked on stupid little flash games sometimes! Is it just me that finds PC games so damn addicting? I love gaming, but on consoles I play for a little bit, feel good, and then I?m done. With PC games, I just want to play and play and play all day. Sometimes I really just think I should give up PC games all together, and just stick to the consoles. I?ll certainly make better use of my time at least!

So what?s your thoughts on the topics? Anyone else here find PC games really easy to get hooked on? Why do you think they are so addicting.. or not addicting at all? Looking forward to your comments and thanks for reading!

Some interesting insights into skin care for teens

Skin care for teens can be a tough subject to cover at times, as it often leaves things open to debate. A teenager?s skin is constantly in a state of flux, and it all boils down to the excess hormones that are rushing through their body. As children get older and they finally start hitting their teens, that is when all the normal adult bodily functions start to kick in and the fact that they haven?t developed the control mechanisms to manage the release of those hormones properly, things can get a little out of control for them. One of the biggest problems that teens face is bad skin and once again it comes down to those hormones running amok.

They often cause the skin to produce and secrete excessive amounts of sebum in the dermal layers of the skin giving it an oily appearance. Unfortunately, there isn?t a whole lot that can be done about the excess secretion, but you can help it with regular washing and keeping the skin clean and the pores open. What you normally find though is that, they don?t take care of their faces the way they are supposed to and it often ends up with acne, blackheads and pimples forming all over the place. Dirty, blocked skin is the biggest cause for bad skin, and when it is coupled with the excess sebum of a teenager, it literally becomes a recipe for disaster.

The thing is that you need to be able to prevent that as much as possible without causing further damage to the skin and making an already bad situation that much worse. A teen?s skin is always going to be a touchy subject, so the situation needs to be handled a little differently. It?s important to show the child that it?s in their best interest to follow a regular routine that helps keep the skin clean and balanced as much as possible. Try to help them plan their daily routine so that they know what to do and when to do it. Teens often complain about that kind of thing because it usually goes with the territory, but once they start to see the difference in the condition of their skin, they quickly change their mind and their tune.

In all honesty, it?s better have them moaning about having the right skin care products instead of moaning about bad skin. Once you get them into a routine of their own, you can leave them to their own devices and they will get on just fine.

Nexus 4 appears early at Carphone Warehouse, October 30th release date

Whoa there! The next Nexus just got an early reveal over at UK retailer Carphone Warehouse. Delivery is currently pegged for October 30th and apparently it's got brand new Android 4.2 (or Android 4.1.2 -- the listing mixes in both). The preorder screen confirms plenty of details we've already heard, including that 4.7-inch 1,280 x 768 display, Snapdragon S4 processor and 8-megapixel camera. Unfortunately, at least according to the phone seller, there's only 8GB of storage and no microSD card slot. Other curious parts include a "360-degree camera", whatever that is, and an on-screen render that's been previously been identified as a custom ROM. Diving into the supposed feature list, we're intrigued to see whether "gesture typing" will form a part of Google's new Android build -- the Carphone Warehouse compares it to Swype's finger-dragging input method.

Price-wise, it looks like you could get the handset for free on contracts over £31 per month, with both O2 and Vodafone named as prospective networks for the device in the UK -- but no news here on whether the 4G-capable EE will offer an LTE iteration. Excited? Good, because we're going to hear plenty more on this next week.

Public, former colleagues pay tribute to McGovern

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) ? Family, friends and former colleagues are filing into a Sioux Falls, S.D., church to pay their respects to former senator and Democratic presidential candidate George McGovern.

Vice President Joe Biden is among the hundreds of well-wishers and politicians who are expected to attend Thursday's public viewing and prayer service for McGovern. Biden served in the U.S. Senate with McGovern in the 1970s and early '80s.

McGovern died Sunday at age 90. He was a political legend in his home state and was very involved in efforts to feed the hungry.

About two dozen people lined up before the church opened for the chance to walk past McGovern's open, flag-draped casket. Two uniformed men stood at attention next to the casket.

McGovern's funeral is Friday in Sioux Falls.
